Chinese Almond Chicken Gravy Recipe

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  1. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the skillet and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the sliced almonds and toast them until golden brown. Remove the almonds from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and water until well combined.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the onions and garlic. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and stir to coat it with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the chicken is heated through.
