Here is a simple and easy recipe to make chicken shumai at home.

Prep time: 30 minutes Cook time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped carrots
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onions
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 24 round dumpling wrappers

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, cabbage, carrots, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, ginger, garlic, sugar, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Take a dumpling wrapper and place about 1 tablespoon of the chicken mixture in the center.
  3. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water and fold it in half, creating a half-moon shape. Pleat the edges of the wrapper, pressing them firmly to seal the dumpling.
  4. Repeat the process with the remaining dumpling wrappers and chicken mixture.
  5. Place the shumai in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking.
  6. Steam the shumai over high heat for about 12-15 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the wrappers are translucent.
  7. Remove the shumai from the steamer and serve hot.
