Chicken Datshi is a traditional Bhutanese dish that is known for its spicy and flavorful taste. It is made with tender chicken pieces cooked in a rich and creamy cheese sauce. Ingredients:

  • 500g boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 2 green chilies, sliced
  • 1 cup Bhutanese datshi cheese, grated
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the pan. Sauté until the onions become translucent.
  3. Add the chicken pieces to the pan and cook until they are browned on all sides.
  4. Next, add the diced tomatoes and sliced green chilies to the pan. Cook for a few minutes until the tomatoes soften.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the grated datshi cheese with turmeric powder, cumin powder, and red chili powder.
  6. Add the cheese mixture to the pan and stir well to combine with the chicken and vegetables.
  7. Cover the pan and let the chicken cook in the cheese sauce for about 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
  8. Season with salt to taste and stir well.
  9. Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice or traditional Bhutanese red rice.
