Chicken Datshi Recipe

- 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 green chili, chopped (optional)
- 1 cup Bhutanese datshi cheese, crumbled (substitute with feta cheese if unavailable)
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions: How to Cook Chicken Datshi
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chili (if using) to the pan. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add the chicken pieces to the pan and cook until they are browned on all sides, about 5-6 minutes.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they start to break down, about 5 minutes.
- Add the crumbled datshi cheese to the pan along with water. Stir well to combine and let the cheese melt into a creamy sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for another 5-7 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
