With tender chicken, smoky sausage, and fragrant rice, this dish is a comforting and satisfying meal. The prep time for this recipe is 15 minutes and the cook time is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the chicken from the pot and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, add the sliced sausage and cook until browned. Remove the sausage from the pot and set aside.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Return the chicken and sausage to the pot. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and add the rice, salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir well to combine.
  6. Cover the pot and simmer for about 1 hour, or until the chicken is cooked through and the rice is tender.
  7. Remove the chicken from the pot and shred the meat. Discard the bones and return the shredded chicken to the pot.
  8. Give the chicken bog a good stir and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
