Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lbs of steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 cup of mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup of beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour

Instructions: How to Cook Steak Casserole

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Season the steak pieces with salt and pepper, then brown them in the pot for about 5 minutes. Remove the steak and set aside.
  4. Add the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir to combine. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Pour in the beef broth, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, thyme, and mushrooms. Stir well to combine.
  7. Return the browned steak to the pot and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  8. Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven. Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the steak is tender.
  9. Remove the pot from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
