- 1.5 lbs of steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 cup of mushrooms, sliced
- 1 can of diced tomatoes
- 1 cup of beef broth
- 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
Instructions: How to Cook Steak Casserole
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Season the steak pieces with salt and pepper, then brown them in the pot for about 5 minutes. Remove the steak and set aside.
- Add the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir to combine. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Pour in the beef broth, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, thyme, and mushrooms. Stir well to combine.
- Return the browned steak to the pot and bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven. Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the steak is tender.
- Remove the pot from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
