Tomahawk Steak on the Grill Recipe


Tomahawk steak is a show-stopping cut of beef known for its long bone, rich marbling, and incredible flavor. This recipe will guide you through preparing a perfectly cooked tomahawk steak that is sure to impress your guests.

  • 1 tomahawk steak (2-3 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 sprig of rosemary
  • 1 sprig of thyme

Instructions: How to Cook Tomahawk Steak

  1. Remove the tomahawk steak from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat your grill to high heat, around 450-500°F (230-260°C).
  3. Brush the steak with olive oil and season generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
  4. Place the steak on the grill and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side to get a nice crust.
  5. Lower the heat to medium and continue cooking the steak, flipping occasionally, until it reaches your desired level of doneness. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature - 125°F (52°C) for rare, 135°F (57°C) for medium-rare, 145°F (63°C) for medium, and 155°F (68°C) for medium-well.
  6. During the last few minutes of cooking, add the minced garlic, rosemary, and thyme to the grill to infuse the steak with flavor.
  7. Once the steak is cooked to your liking, remove it from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
